Let Me Introduce You To… Markstone Granite
If you’re looking for new or reclaimed building materials for your building project Markstone Granite, a small family business in Lifton on the Devon/Cornwall border, is definitely worth a visit. What started off as a ‘hobby’ back in the ’80s has now turned into a thriving business with customers not only in the South West but all over the country.
The business is run today by Jonathan and Clare Horn and they specialise in building materials: new and reclaimed; landscaping materials; and features for the garden – and not just in granite.
For building they stock new and reclaimed granite quoins, steps and lintels. They can also supply new, bespoke granite items produced to your exact measurements, such as columns, staircases, coping and fountains. Reclaimed bricks make a lovely feature as a wall or around a fireplace, adding true character to a building, and Markstone Granite sell both red and buff coloured reclaimed bricks.
Delabole slate was the most popular slate quarried locally and was traditionally used in the South West. If you are trying to create the look of an old floor then they sell reclaimed flagstones which are extremely popular. They also import Brazilian slate as this is the best colour match to the local slate and can supply you with floor tiles, sills, shelves and hearths, cut to your specific measurements. They also produce bespoke slate worktops from this slate and can arrange a full templating and fitting service.
Slate creates a beautiful, tactile and durable surface. Being a natural product, the subtle attractive colour variations give character and style which is completely unique.
They have a large quantity of oak beams and lintels in their warehouse, plus they sell oak boarding which is ideal for making doors, shelves, sills or seating.
For the garden they sell a good selection of landscaping materials, such as natural stone paving, oak sleepers, granite cobbles, steps and kerbs. They also sell slate garden furniture, as well as oak barrels, garden pots, ornaments and statues.
Their showroom incorporates products they sell, from oak beams on the ceiling to Brazilian slate flooring. In here you’ll find their oak lintels, oak fireplace surrounds and various other items they sell such as slate placemats, coasters and cheeseboards, as well as oak tables, benches and chopping boards which they handcraft in their workshop.
I guarantee you won’t come away empty-handed!
