Congratulations to Debbie in Plymouth who correctly identified Talland Bay Hotel in the photo competition!
The hotel has an array of sculptures in its garden which has the perfect backdrop in the spectacular views across the bay. In the photo you can see one of the hotel’s gorgeous wire fairies perched on the table. It’s the work of Derek Kinzett who has been creating life-size figurative wire sculptures since 2007, producing many beautiful fairies and mythological creatures as well as everyday people. Smaller sculptures can be bought at the Fowey River Gallery – this is where I first came across these intricate works of art and couldn’t resist a mermaid which now happily graces my kitchen.
Inside, the hotel has plenty of interesting art adorning its walls which complements the interesting design and quirky touches throughout. We just stopped in for a delicious light lunch last month and the staff were extremely friendly and professional. It’s dog friendly and the guests were a mix of regulars (some booking their next stay) and first-timers, staying in individually designed bedrooms or garden suites. I’d have been very happy to arrive here after a long journey – a slice of Cornish heaven beside the sea.
